Discover Middle Georgia: Museum of Arts & Sciences

MACON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – The Museum of Arts and Sciences is a one-of-a-kind venue in Middle Georgia. The Museum is constantly growing and adapting to the changing demands in order to stay ahead of other museums throughout the state.

Over sixty years ago, the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon was founded as a single room in the Wesleyan Conservatory. In 1964, the museum moved to its present day location off of Forsyth Road in Macon where it now has a sprawling campus that is continually growing. Expansion and updates are something that the museum staff is immensely proud of.

Outside of the museum is where construction of the brand new amphitheater and bird aviaries are shaping up. I spoke with the museums Director of Communication, Sherry Singleton, and she said that “the pavilion was finished last fall and the amphitheater is slated to be done this fall.”

Inside the museum there is something to do for folks of all ages. From the Discovery House to the Mark Smith Planetarium and art galleries, there is something for everyone!

The museum is closed on Monday’s, but is open every other day of the week. Tuesday through Saturday the hours are 10 AM to 5 PM and on Sunday the museum opens for a matinee from 1 to 5.
