Discover Middle Georgia: Georgia Bob’s BBQ Company & Cane River Vineyard

BYRON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – Discover Middle Georgia this week features a unique relationship between a barbecue restaurant and local vineyard.

Georgia Bob’s Barbecue Company has been feeding Middle Georgia for 17 years, but the style in which Georgia Bob’s has cooked their barbecue dates back to the historic peach festivals in the 1920’s.

John Cox is a Co-Owner and Manager of Georgia Bob’s Barbecue Company in Byron. He says, “we used to have some t-shirts with the slogan – true southern barbecue and so much more – and that’s kind of what our focus is.”

What makes Georgia Bob’s different than other barbecue joints is the menu. They serve your classic barbecue items like ribs, pulled pork and brisket, but there’s a vast array of meat and side items to order.

“Right there near the top of all things that you don’t expect out of your typical barbecue restaurant is our chicken salad,” adds Cox.

Georgia Bob’s Barbecue Company opened its doors to Warner Robins in 2001. Originally, it was a family owned operation.

Since then, it has expanded to include seven restaurants across Middle Georgia in Warner Robins, Milledgeville, Macon, Perry, Dublin and Byron.

The Byron location features a ‘grape’ relationship with a winery next door.

Georgia Bob’s Barbecue Company has a partnership with the Cane River Vineyard, so once you’re done dining at the restaurant, you can just walk right over and enjoy a wine tasting or other specialties.

The Cane River Vineyard opened in 2010 to serve the community as a place for gathering and relaxation.

“You can come in anytime and do a wine tasting, taste 5 different wines for $5,” says Katie Taylor, General Manager at the Cane River Vineyard.

The Vineyard offers white and red wines from the state of Georgia, wine slushies, buzz bars and newly added craft beer for purchase.

The vineyard hosts special events throughout the month for ladies and gentlemen and the event space can also be booked for private gatherings or weddings.

From traditional barbecue to sweet muscadine wine, Georgia Bob’s in Byron is a truly southern, family-friendly restaurant and winery.
