Discover Middle Georgia: Big Peach Antiques Mall

High in the sky stands a peach sign signaling the largest climate controlled antiques mall in Middle Georgia with 30,000 square feet of space.

The Big Peach Antiques Mall houses thousands of antiques sold by more than 200 dealers.

Longtime dealer, Linda Walton, has been collecting depression glass, old tools and furniture with her husband for over 30 years. Walton says she enjoys finding new ways to re-purpose old items.

The Big Peach Antiques Mall in Byron, Georgia wasn’t always home to this collection of unique items.

In the 1980’s, the building was actually used as a peach packing house – one of the largest peach operations in the area at the time. In 1994, the packing house was transformed into an antiques mall.

A Middle Georgia landmark, the Big Peach, stood tall on the property and was visible to drivers on I-75.

In April 2011, a severe storm with strong winds caused the big peach to topple onto the antiques mall. A new sign, 30 feet in diameter, was erected in its place.

Heather Klemm owns and operates the antiques mall with her husband and children. She has been an “antiquer” since the age of ten, when she first started tagging along on antique store trips with her mother.

Klemm says she’s “always loved older things and collecting them and thinking about the possible history behind them when you have no idea what the history really is.”

The Big Peach Antiques Mall attracts visitors from different states and even different countries.

Located at the mid-point of the state of Georgia, travelers are welcome to stop and stretch, take a walk around and spend a few minutes to hours searching the store.

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or someone else, you’re guaranteed to find a treasure inside.

Visitor Sandee Khoury frequents the antiques mall and says “there’s lots of stuff here that even people who have everything don’t have.”

The Big Peach Antiques Mall is open 7 days a week, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. The mall is open 362 days in the year, only closing on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
