MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – In a joint press conference Friday, Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority, Executive Director Alex Morrison announced the Macon Health Club will reopen after being closed for nearly a decade.

The revamp of the current building will be led by the Macon-Bibb UDA, which now has ownership of the property after a transfer from the Macon-Bibb Hospital Authority.

“This has been a very long time coming,” said Morrison.

He says multiple agencies, including the Industrial Authority, NewTown Macon, and Visit Macon have been working together to make this project a reality. In addition to the health club, the Macon-Bibb UDA also has ownership for a parking deck and office building on Cherry Street transferred to them.

“We’re also gonna make sure we have a new hotel nearby,” said Mayor Miller.

He adds there are also plans for restaurants and more housing in addition to revamping the parking deck.

Morrison says no official completion date has been set for any of the projects, but planning has already began.
