Daniel Cape wins race for Bleckley County Sheriff

Cape, who took over as interim sheriff after former Bleckley County Sheriff Kris Coody pleaded guilty to sexual assault earlier this year, beat Chris Smith in the race for sheriff on Tuesday.

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters in Bleckley County have decided to remove the interim tag from Daniel Cape’s title.

Cape, who took over as interim sheriff after former Bleckley County Sheriff Kris Coody pleaded guilty to sexual assault earlier this year, beat Chris Smith in the race for sheriff on Tuesday.

Cape, who earned 56.7% of the vote, says he wants to continue his initiatives surrounding community engagement and combating violence and gang activity in the county.

Cape has served as the interim sheriff since August 2023.
