Macon Regional Crimestoppers raises more than $100,000

Since its inception 22 years ago, there have been more than 6,000 arrests, nearly 11,000 cases cleared, and more than $1,000,000 given in rewards.

MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – The Middle Georgia community and law enforcement leaders gathered Monday to celebrate, after Macon Regional Crimestoppers raised more than $100,000.

Since its inception 22 years ago, there have been more than 6,000 arrests, nearly 11,000 cases cleared, and more than $1,000,000 given in rewards.

Crimestoppers Chairman Warren Selby, says its message remains the same: reward people whose tips lead to an arrest.

“What they [the public] do is tell criminals if you commit a crime in our community, we’re gonna tell law enforcement, we’re gonna find you, and we’re gonna run you out of our community,” says Selby.

The organization works with eight law enforcement agencies in Middle Georgia. One of them is the Perry Police Department. Police Cheif Alan Everidge says the partnership with Crimestoppers has been beneficial for the city.

“Crimestoppers is bringing the community, law enforcement, and the media together to help put criminals in jail and make our streets safer,” said Chief Everidge.

Streets that are kept safe because of a community effort according to Sgt. Greg Thomas, Executive Director of Crimestoppers.

“It takes team effort to get anything done. Anytime we can build that through communication and building with the public, medicinal staff, law enforcement, and the courts, it’s just betterment for everyone involved,” said Thomas.
