MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon Volunteer Clinic is launching a Giving Tuesday Campaign to expand its services at the Clinic. It hopes to raise $20,000 during the campaign for new eye care equipment.

The clinic currently offers free primary medical and dental care for adults in Macon-Bibb and Twiggs Counties, who don’t make enough money, or don’t have insurance through their employer and make too much for government assistance.

“They fall into this health care gap where they don’t make enough money to afford insurance or their employer doesn’t offer them insurance, and they make too much for government assistance,” said Julia Norman, Director of Development Macon Volunteer Clinic.

The new eye clinic hopes to benefit not only the patients’ eye care, but their overall well-being by uncovering other medical issues that may have gone unnoticed.

“When you do eye exams, sometimes you can uncover or diagnose systemic problems like high blood pressure, diabetes,” said Volunteer Optometrist, Dr. Lewis Frey.

Giving Tuesday is November 28.
