Mercer men’s basketball falls to Clark Atlanta in the season-opener

Mercer has five returners and 10 newcomers for the 2023-24 season.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –The Mercer men’s basketball team failed to win its season opener, as they were stunned by Clark Atlanta 71-64 at Hawkins Arena.

The Bears led 34-31 at halftime, but after an 11-2 run to begin the second half by Clark Atlanta, Mercer was never able to claw its way back, starting their season at 0-1.

Head coach Greg Gary brought in 10 newcomers, while only bringing back five players from last year’s squad; however, once again, last season’s leading scorer, Jalyn McCreary, led the Bears with 14 points on the night.

Mercer will not return to Hawkins Arena until December 6.
