Cochran Motor Speedway hosts Gobbler 100 this weekend

COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – NASCAR’s season is over, but local short tracks across the country are still in action.

The only dirt track with racing in middle Georgia this weekend is Cochran Motor Speedway. The track is hosting its annual Gobbler 100, with races in six different classes.

$10,000 is up for grabs in the National Late Model Division.

Practice is Thursday, qualifying and heat races are Friday, and the features start at 6 Saturday night.

“Cory Compton, who’s the Senoia 2018 Sportsman Champion, he’ll be there along with his brother, 16-year-old Cole Compton,” says track promoter Willis Wombles. “So there will be brothers racing together. And then we have a brother-sister from down in Gordon, Georgia: Paisley and Parker Martin. They’ll both be driving at Cochran Motor Speedway in the Gobbler 100. We’re attracting drivers from all over.”

NASCAR driver David Ragan’s Shriner’s show car will also be on display.

Wombles says it might rain on the fun, but they’re moving forward with the current schedule and will “play it by ear” as far as a rain date goes.
