TECH BYTE: iPhone 14 new features

(41NBC/WMGT) — Apple is out with some new iPhones, which have improved cameras, and even first of its kind safety features. Let’s check out the iPhone 14.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is hoping bigger is better for smartphone users, after announcing a new larger iPhone. The 14 Plus is 6.7 inches, and joins the already popular 6.1 inch phone. Not only does it have a great battery–it also has some beneficial safety features you hope you won’t ever need, but are happy to have. Apple says both of these new phones have first-in-the-industry critical safety capabilities like Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS via satellite. The new dual-core accelerometer can detect a severe car crash, and automatically dial 911 if a user is unconscious or can’t reach their iPhone. Emergency SOS via satellite enables messaging with emergency services when outside Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. This feature will be available in November, and will be free for two years. And we also can’t forget the upgraded dual-camera system, where anyone can act as their own professional photographer or videographer.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have new Main and front TrueDepth cameras, plus an Ultra Wide camera. There’s an Action mode setting for smooth-looking video, Cinematic mode for higher quality video, and of course a brighter flash for when there’s low lighting. Both phones come in several colors. The iPhone 14 is already available, and you’ll be able to get the iPhone 14 Plus starting October 7. The 14 will cost about $800 before trade-in, and the 14 Plus will be about $900 before trade-in.

These new iPhones, of course, feature Apple’s latest software update – iOS 16. But you don’t have to have a brand new phone to take advantage of the update.
