UPDATE: 2 arrests made in Milledgeville shooting that left 16-year-old dead, one person still wanted

Milledgeville Police say the 14-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Desmond Rivers is now in custody. Police are still looking for 18-year-old Derquavious Kier.

UPDATE (11/27  – 11:38 p.m.):  Milledgeville Police say the 14-year-old suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Desmond Rivers is now in custody.

“Chief Dray Swicord talked to family members of the 14 year old suspect and arranged for him to turn himself in at the police department,” Major Linc Boyer wrote in an update on the police department’s Facebook page. “He was taken into custody a few minutes ago without incident. Also, please keep in mind each of these young men including the victim have a family. Please keep that in mind before passing judgement through your comments etc.”

Police are still looking for 18-year-old Derquavious Kier.


ORIGINAL STORY (11/27 –  6:45 p.m.):

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old has led to one arrest, and police are looking for at least two other suspects.

On Saturday, November 25, Milledgeville Police Department officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Anthony Way following reports of gunfire involving multiple homes and vehicles. Police were told shooters had been firing from a red Dodge Charger and a dark blue Toyota Corolla.

Upon arrival, officers found 16-year-old Desmond Rivers dead in the front passenger seat of the bullet-ridden Toyota Corolla.

Meanwhile, a Baldwin County deputy located a red Dodge Charger on Dunlap Road and conducted a traffic stop. Four people inside the vehicle, which police say was also marked by bullet holes, were taken in for questioning.

On Sunday, 17-year-old Dillon Chapman was arrested following the execution of a search warrant on Belfair Drive. He’s charged with felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Arrest warrants are now issued for the following suspects, who police say remain on the run:

  • 18-year-old Derquavious Kier
  • 14-year-old male juvenile

Both Kier and the 14-year-old are wanted on charges of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

“Further charges are pending additional investigation,” MPD stated in a news release.
