WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff announced significant federal resources will go toward strengthening public safety in Houston County on Thursday.

He has successfully secured $57,949 in federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice to boost public safety and upgrade equipment in Warner Robins and Houston County, according to a news release.

The federal grant, set to be equally divided between the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and the Warner Robins Police Department, will provide for purchase of a new law enforcement vehicle for the sheriff’s office and enable the Warner Robins Police Department to acquire advanced technology and provide training for its officers.

“I am pleased to help deliver these public safety upgrades for Warner Robins and Houston County,” Senator Ossoff said. “I remain committed to public safety for every community in Georgia.

“Houston County Board of Commissioners is grateful for the support of Senator Ossoff and the investment in public safety this grant will make,” Houston County Board of Commission Chairman Dan Perdue said.

Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton said the sheriff’s office is grateful for the funding.

“We take public safety and the security of all of our citizens seriously and are looking forward to using these funds in the Houston County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that every citizen of Houston County is able to prosper while feeling safe,” he said.

Warner Robins Mayor LaRhonda Patrick also extended gratitude.

“With these resources, we will strengthen our law enforcement efforts, invest in critical equipment and further support initiatives that promote the well-being of our residents,” she said.

In September, Senator Ossoff collaborated with Senator Raphael Warnock and Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. to deliver resources for fire prevention and firefighter training in Crawford County, and in August, Senators Ossoff and Warnock obtained funding for professional training and equipment for Crawford County and the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department as well as support for the Town of Toomsboro and Wilkinson County in firefighter retention and hiring.
