Middle Georgia Cold Cases: Holiday Homicide

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One Middle Georgia brother is still looking for who shot his sister seven years ago.Roy Mitchell says his sister, Sue, was an all-around good person. She was unpacking Christmas gifts out of her car at her home on Newberg Avenue in Macon. As she was coming out to get more bags, an armed man came up to her and shot her in the chest.

“She was alive when we got there. She was talking to us. She was rushed to the hospital and we were never able to get a statement from her. She died on the table,” Bibb Sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Barbee says.

Losing a loved one is hard, especially when you have little to remember them by…

“Every minute of the day I’m sitting here,” Mitchell says.

Barbee says whoever pulled the trigger knew or had seen Sue before.

“If it was somebody that didn’t know  Ms. Sue, it would probably be safe to say that it was random, but this guy was young and it could be somebody from the neighborhood,” Barbee says.

Sue’s house is no longer on the corner. Her brother says even though her home is still gone, the memories are still there and he wants someone to pay for what they did to his sister.

“He was wearing a white hoodie. He was slim about 5’5″ to 5’9,” Barbee says.

Investigators searched around the home for clues, looking for a piece of evidence that could link someone to pulling the trigger.

After days of looking, they found something.

“We do have DNA and if somebody calls in with a name then we can put that name with DNA,” Barbee says.

Now he and Roy are waiting for that name — so they can put someone behind bars and no longer have to wait for justice.

“If you know anything about the shooting, please come forth so the family and I can have closure on this murder,” Roy says.
